Finally got a chance to go back to the Serenissima and see how it’s changed. Just a few disjointed observations.

People will always be more interesting than architecture.

I had forgotten how committed Venetian architecture is to being off center / having multiple center lines. The Venetians are masters of asymmetry.

The eternal battle between pigeons and seagulls continues.

Venetian architecture most closely finds analogies in textiles. It’s the architecture of fabric. All facades are just tiled textiles hung on the front of the structural box of the building.

Keeping track of what part of the architecture was made when is so difficult. Each building is polysynchronous, a temporal hodgepodge of agglutenative decisions.

Bar Puppa now has 3 locations! Fusion Puppa and Spicy Puppa.

Ca Vedova is still successful and traditional after losing the grandpa and the mother retired. Their twin sons are keeping the polpette fresh.

Some jerk opened up a pasta-to-go place literally one block in front of Dal Moro’s (*original*) fresh-pasta-to-go. I refused to try it. Dal Moros is the way.

Time Bar remains the best cocktail bar in Venice, and possibly beyond.

Venetians remain among the very best branders and designers.

August is a miserably hot time to be in Venice. No amount of beauty is appreciated in such heat.

Not a whole lot has changed in 5 years, but it was nice to be unfamiliar enough with the streets that I could get lost again. Almost.
